This is the first Surprise Trade in which I do two Pokémon of different species, I have done regional forms, but this time I will be trading Nidoran, both male and female. I usually breed for 31 IVs in at least 4 or 5 stats, but I ended up getting both Nidoran with 31 IVs in 6 stats, guaranteeing 31 IVs in 5 stats, and for some reason, Nidorina and Nidoqueen cannot breed, so it has to be Nidoran Female that has to breed, the male counterpart and all its evolved forms can breed.
I went with Modest for the Nature, Timid is better for Nidoran Male, and even though it has a higher Attack stat, it has a wider Special movepool to make use of Sheer Force when fully evolved, and Hustle turns into Sheer Force once they are fully evolved.
The Egg Moves I went with on the Nidoran are different, the Nidoran Female have Poison Fang, Skull Bash, Counter, and Disable, and the Nidoran Male have Sucker Punch, Head Smash, Counter, and Disable. I will go over each of the Nidoran's Egg Moves, both Nidoran can learn Counter, Disable, Poison Tail, Supersonic, and Take Down.
Nidoran Female learns Poison Fang and Skull Bash for Egg Moves, and Nidoran Male has a wider amount of moves, it can learn Confusion, Head Smash, Horn Drill, Sucker Punch, and Thrash, I won't list the parents, but if you are wondering, both Nidoran are in the Monster and Field Egg Groups, Nidorina and Nidoqueen cannot breed.
Next is their level up moves, both Nidoran can learn Poison Sting, Toxic Spikes, Double Kick, Helping Hand, Toxic, Flatter, and Earth Power. Nidoran Female learns Scratch, Growl, Tail Whip, Fury Swipes, and Crunch, and Nidoran Male learns Leer, Peck, Focus Energy, Fury Attack, and Poison Jab. They evolve at Level 16, and require a Moon Stone to fully evolve, and you don't need to keep them as a Nidorina or Nidorino, because they learn all of their moves through the Move Reminder, reminds me of how good Nidoking was back in the days of Pokémon Yellow, specially because it can get Thrash really early. Nidoqueen learns Superpower, and Nidoking learns Megahorn upon evolution.
The next thing is TMs and TRs, they learn a wide variety of moves, they can learn the Elemental Punches, Rock Slide, Dig, Brick Break, Rock Tomb, Shadow Claw, Bulldoze, Venoshock, Stomping Tantrum, and a few other moves, Nidoking can learn Smart Strike. Their TR access is very wide, they can get Body Slam, Flamethrower, Ice Beam, Thunderbolt, Surf, Earthquake, Fire Blast, Thunder, Blizzard, Sludge Bomb, Outrage, Iron Tail, Shadow Ball, Superpower, Poison Jab, Dragon Pulse, Stealth Rock, Sludge Wave, Stone Edge, High Horsepower, Throat Chop, and Body Press, and their only Tutor move is Scorching Sands.
As for the competitive scene, Nidoking is the better one out of the two, because it is the more offensive, and with Sheer Force, Nidoking has a very wide movepool, even though it has a higher Attack stat, it has a fairly good Special Attack stat, and most of the moves Nidoking can learn that make use of Sheer Force are Special Attacks. It can use Sludge Wave, Earth Power, Flamethrower, Ice Beam, Thunderbolt, and many other moves, and it is a good user of the Life Orb to boost its power even further.
Its counterpart Nidoqueen does have similar success, but it tends to be more defensive than Nidoking, and most Nidoqueen sets use Stealth Rock and Toxic Spikes to set up entry hazards, and while it doesn't have the power that Nidoking has, its Sludge Wave and Earth Power can hurt for some good damage, and it has nice coverage moves as well.
While they have had success in Single Battles because of Sheer Force, they are kind of outclassed in Double Battles, and Nidoking is the better one out of the two in Double Battles as well, but there are better options, Venusaur, Nihilego, and Dragalge are better Poison-types in the current format, and for Ground-type Pokémon, Landorus Therian Forme, Garchomp, Krookodile, and many others are better.
The Nidoran evolution line have been around since the days of Gen 1, and they made some great early-game Pokémon, specially in Pokémon Yellow where they learned Double Kick very early to help against Rock-type Pokémon, and you can have them fully evolved very early, and they learned a wide variety of TMs to make them great team members for even the whole game, I have seen players do a Pokémon Yellow speedrun with Nidoking because of its versatility, it was like the starter Pokémon for Yellow, because you start with a Pikachu that can't even evolve, and Nidoking is considered one of the best Pokémon to use back then, it's even one of my favourite Gen 1 Pokémon, and while Gen 1 did have some good Pokémon, most of my favourites were introduced in later games.
