It is time to head off to Route 3, but first off, Hop challenges me to a battle, and then it is time to check out Route 3 and encounter some new Pokémon, including a certain new flower Pokémon that causes some trouble, which I will not spoil what trouble it caused.

As for the rest of the description, I recommend watching the full video before reading past this point of the description

Before heading to Route 3, I take on Hop, and his team is still the same, he has Wooloo, Rookidee, and his starter. Your starter will most likely have evolved after the battle, as they evolve at Level 16, but with Scorbunny, you can prevent its evolution so that it can learn Flame Charge at Level 17.
Now onto Route 3, and Galarian Zigzagoon are more common there, so if you are looking to get one, this is the best place to get one.
For new encounters, the Grass-type Gossifleur can be found there, and one gave me so much trouble in this video, can't believe it took many Poké Balls to catch one Gossifleur. Gossifleur is a slow and defensive Pokémon, it evolves into Eldegoss, which has high Special Defense, it can be a decent team member, or even a temporary Pokémon.
Then we have other version exclusives, in Sword, you get Vulpix, while Shield players get Growlithe. Vulpix has good Speed and Special Defense, and it can get Incinerate at Level 16, and when evolved into Ninetales, you can reteach some good moves, like Flamethrower, Extrasensory, and Nasty Plot. That is a good change with the Move Reminder, and you can do it for free, so no using Thief on Luvdisc and stealing Heart Scales.
As for Growlithe, I recommend getting one with Intimidate, and once you get the Fire Stone, you can evolve it immediately, as Arcanine will learn Extreme Speed after evolution, and you can teach it Flamethrower, Crunch, Play Rough, and Flare Blitz, giving you a very powerful Fire-type option, so I recommend Growlithe for Shield players that didn't pick Scorbunny.
Next up is Stunky, a Poison/Dark-type that evolves into Skuntank, while Stunky does get some nice moves like Venoshock and Sucker Punch through level up, it doesn't evolve until Level 34. Skuntank will learn Flamethrower after evolution, it's not a bad option, but it can be a useful team member.
Another Poison-type option is Trubbish, which does get Toxic Spikes fairly early, and can use Acid Spray to weaken the Special Defense of foes, it isn't until Level 36 that it evolves into Garbodor, one of the most hated Gen 5 Pokémon, and my least favourite Pokémon. I know there are people that like Trubbish and Garbodor, and it can be a good defensive Poison-type to consider for your team, but it's not the best option.
Last out of the overworld spawns is Tyrogue, which can evolve into Hitmonlee, Hitmonchan, or Hitmontop depending on its stats, it will become Hitmonlee if its Attack is higher than Defense, Hitmonchan if it is the opposite, or Hitmontop if equal. While it is weak as a Tyrogue, whichever evolution you will get does end up being a solid Fighting-type option.
Now onto random encounters, Pancham can evolve into Pangoro if you have a Dark-type Pokémon on your team once Pancham reaches Level 32. It is a strong physical attacker with high Attack, so it is a good option.
Machop is another Fighting-type option, and to evolve Machoke into Machamp, you will need to trade. Machamp has high Attack, and if you get one with No Guard, you get perfect accuracy with Dynamic Punch, so it is a good Fighting-type option.
Then we have Mudbray, and I recommend getting one with Stamina, which increases Mudbray's Defense if hit by an attack. It learns some powerful moves like High Horsepower and Heavy Slam, and once it evolves into Mudsdale, it is a strong Ground-type option.
Klink is an unfortunate case, it doesn't get any Steel-type moves until Level 32 when it learns Gear Grind, and it evolves very late, it becomes Klang at Level 38, and Klinklang at Level 49, so it is very late, so I don't recommend Klink.
And there is the 1% encounter with Sizzlipede, it is a Fire/Bug-type, a type that was once exclusive to Larvesta and Volcarona. Sizzlipede has good Attack, and it does get some nice moves like Flame Wheel, Bug Bite, and Coil, so if you get really lucky, Sizzlipede is a decent addition to your team.
After talking with Sonia halfway through the route, you will be closer to the mine, and one new encounter is Rolycoly, which is very common there and a good Pokémon to consider, it is a Rock-type Pokémon with good Defensive stats, so it is a solid option. Rapid Spin got buffed in this game, where it is now a 50 base power move that boosts Speed, so I can see that move being very popular in competitive battling in this game. Its Ability, Steam Engine maximizes its Speed if hit by a Fire or Water-type move, so it is like the move Belly Drum, but for Speed. I recommend Rolycoly, and it does learn some Fire-type moves as well.
