Hello Sweeties and Welcome to PRIDE MONTH!! ❤🧡💛💚💙💜🤎🖤

The third video for Pride Month is the little-known Indie Game called Undertale. It follows the life of our adorable young protagonist, Frisk/Chara. (Their name changes depending on what type of story you lead. Whether you decide to take the path of mercy or the path of death). Frisk, as I will be calling them due to the nature of my run through this game (as I have chosen the Merciful route, the route of Friendship!), is a small Non-Binary human child who accidentally finds themselves in the demon world after falling into Mt. Ebott. There, they are met by the sweetest monster we’ve met so far, Toriel, as well as one of the rudest monsters we’ve met so far, Flowey, the Flower.

As you move through the game, you discover that there are always choices to your actions and that you can kill any of the creatures that attack you at any time you want, however, you are also able to reason with them in one way or another to help them and stop them from fighting you. In fact, some of them are just as afraid as you are and have no idea why they’re fighting in the first place. They just need a little compliment, or some encouraging words, or someone to listen to them, etc. This is how you are able to mercifully spare them and help them. Even if it’s not the easiest path to take, it’s truly worth it to make a difference.

Undertale was developed and engineered by its creator, Toby Fox on the engine, GameMaker and initially came out in September 2015. As a game, it was originally financed through a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter with a goal of $5,000. However, by the end of the fundraiser, Toby Fox had come out with just over $50,000! Talk about a massive hit! And it was and continues to be to this day! As a 2D RPG where choices REALLY matter and making them is very difficult, it’s always easy to kill in games but to save a life, that’s hard. And that’s EXACTLY what Toby Fox wanted.

So, from the unique characters to the story rich in themes of deep seeded questions of why we do what we do in video games, to the intricate battle scenes, and even down to the amazing soundtrack, Undertale has captured our imaginations and minds and will continue to do so for a long time to come.
