Well to be fair.. A lot of things are quite broken now in the prepatch!

Remember during early Legion when we did loads of healing and had quite good support?

Well those times are back... in a different form!

We now have quite good damage, and great healing. We are much more squishy and have a bit less control than before but we are still great!

Not the highest MMR yet, just started trying out changes and Drake is still theorycrafting what main to pick for the new xpac!

Oh, and Drake had 212 ilvl at the time!

Battles:

0:06 VS Sub rogue / BM Hunter
1:29 VS Assasination Rogue / Disc Priest
3:05 VS Retribution Paladin / MM Hunter
3:52 VS Frost Mage / Disc Priest
6:50 VS Sub Rogue / MM Hunter
8:05 VS Sub Rogue / Disc Priest
9:04 VS Shadow Priest / Resto Sham
10:58 VS Havoc DH / Enh Shaman

Small guide for Protection / thoughts so far in the pre-patch:

We lack damage reduction VS magic, however Holy Shield is wonderful. Especially since we can get our mastery value high and block is stronger than before (45% for me right now).

All the Legion nerfs are gone, which means Hand of the Protector (however at a longer cooldown) can crit heal for 22k. That is around 70% of some peoples HP.

Avenger's Shield deals quite good damage now aswell, however Judgment is still superior!

Shield of the Righteous is usable outside of meele range, which is awesome combined with Righteous Protector, to get Hand of the Protector to recharge faster.

With Consecration at such a low cooldown, the PvP talent "Hallowed Ground" causes Consecration to remove and supress slowing effects on friendly units. That means we have a slow dispel at around 3 second cooldown, which is awesome support for the team!

Consecrated Ground is a valuable talent to pick now, with 15% larger Consecration, and a 50% slow whenever inside it, pillar kiting / anti pillar kiting just got buffed a lot for us Protection.

Suggested stat stacking:

To be honest, I am not certain yet. A lot of stats got value to them but crit is the stat I think will the worst for us.

Haste is very good for a number of reasons...
It makes our Consecration have a lower CD, which makes us dispel slows more often. Aswell as reducing CD on our rotation leading to more Hand of the Prot etc. The global cooldown reduction is also VERY helpful.

Versatility is valuable in all kind of situations, everything scales in one way or the other with versatility. Are you stunned? Then haste won't help anything but versatility will grant you some dmg reduction. Especially important since our damage reduction ain't that strong these days. Having less haste is bad if enemy shifts targets however, since Hand of the Protector will have a long cooldown without a lot of haste.

Mastery increase our block... Very good for Holy Shield however we aren't going to be in our Consecration all the time, so the benefit through that might be wasted. I would say you rather have Versatility than Mastery (most of the time).

My personal priority will be haste - versa - mastery - crit. But uncertain about Haste VS Versatility, there are pros and cons with both of them.
