ProtoCorgi - Game Review
ProtoCorgi - Game Review
Hello, gaming veterans! Welcome back to the "Veteran Game" channel. Today we've got something truly special for you. We're diving into "ProtoCorgi" from Kemono Games, a game that managed to find my sole weakness: who could resist a lovable corgi that shoots lasers in space? Not me, that's for sure!
The idea of a "cute 'em up" shoot 'em up game isn't new, but let's get one thing straight. While games like "Squad 51 vs. the Flying Saucers" and "Rainbows, Toilets, and Unicorns" remind us that substance matters, ProtoCorgi proves that there's no trade-off between delightful visuals and solid gameplay. Sure, you've got pixelated corgis with lasers - I mean, how cool is that? But it's also a genuinely engaging game. Not revolutionary, per se, but fun, and let's be honest, that's what gaming is all about.
At its heart, ProtoCorgi is a straightforward bullet hell shooter. Your mission? Shoot everything in sight using a few simple controls. Tap the X button to bark the letters B, A, R, K at your foes (I swear it's so cute I can barely stand it), or hold down X to unleash a stream of the current high-powered shot you're packing. The game is challenging, no doubt about that. With one hit spelling toast for your pup, it's not quite as "wholesome" as it might appear, but trust me, it's tough yet fair, and loaded with upgrades and weapons to keep things balanced.
But ProtoCorgi is not all about the shooting gameplay loop. In a first for the genre, it introduces a level creator. Sure, it's more of an enemy wave and gauntlet creator due to the genre limitations, but it does open up the potential for virtually endless gameplay. The editor's UI and controls can be a bit puzzling, but I'm confident that there will be a dedicated group of players who will master it and provide us with some fascinating new levels.
If ProtoCorgi was just a cute 'em up with decent controls, that alone would have been enough to earn my recommendation. But it goes beyond that - cute pups with lasers and a level editor? It stands out from its peers in more ways than one. And considering the game's price, ProtoCorgi is undoubtedly a worthwhile addition to your library. To answer the age-old question, who's a good shooter? Well, yes you are, ProtoCorgi!
So, there you have it, folks! Buckle up for an adorable, laser-filled journey through space. And as always, keep gaming, and I'll see you in the next video!
