At first blush, the game paints a picture of a sexually liberated utopia, but as we dig deeper, we uncover a story rife with complexity, absurdity, and at times, stark seriousness.

The game, Nukitashi - Nukige Mitai na Shima ni Sunderu Watashi wa Dou Surya Ii Desu ka? - pairs its in-your-face eroticism with surprising gravitas. One minute, it’s highlighting quirky features such as dildo-attached rental bikes, and the next, it's delving into the intricate political backdrop that shapes the island's libertine ethos.

Our protagonist Junnosuke, along with his sister Asane, navigates this environment with mainland sensibilities, rejecting the island’s indiscriminate sexual mores. This journey, with its slow start, invites us to grow with the characters, get to know their backstories, and discover their motivations. A mysterious sponsor offers aid, presenting an opportunity to defy the sex law and explore their individual desires.

Nukitashi impresses with its action-packed narrative, occasionally bordering on the absurd with elements like a fleshlight flashbang or a blow-up doll decoy. The action scenes, often integrated with key plot points, dial up the drama and keep the suspense high.

The game takes us through four unique routes: Nanase, Hinami, Misaki, and Fumino, each revealing key elements of the story and offering different perspectives. Each route is designed to expose significant aspects of the narrative, leading to an intricate web of storylines that keeps the gameplay fresh.

The developers didn't shy away from detailing the island's history, providing rich backstories that contribute to a fuller understanding of this unique universe. Moreover, the integration of humor into Nukitashi’s story is both effective and a matter of personal taste, with sex terminology weaved into nearly every dialogue exchange and references to popular culture sprinkled throughout.

Bear in mind, if you’re going to venture into Nukitashi’s world, the 18+ version is the way to go. The Steam version, without the adult patch, is severely truncated, offering little in terms of narrative depth. In contrast, the 18+ version truly immerses you in the game's unique environment, where sex is omnipresent, not just for arousal but as part of the island's peculiar charm.

Nukitashi does contain several non-consensual scenes, mostly involving the protagonist, adding a darker undertone to the storyline. There are also a considerable number of adult scenes, leaning more towards traditional rather than 'niche' erotic preferences.

The game’s technical prowess shines with high-quality graphics, an immersive user interface, and varied animation. The soundtrack, comprised of 35 unique pieces, amplifies the tropical island ambiance, while the excellent voice acting contributes to character development and overall immersion.

Nukitashi, on the surface, could be dismissed as an overtly sexual visual novel, a mere collection of adult scenes. But for those who give it a chance, it reveals a surprisingly deep and engrossing story. While it may not resonate with everyone due to its unique blend of humor and writing, it remains a compelling gaming experience – provided you play the 18+ version.
