Nimbus INFINITY - Game Review
Nimbus INFINITY - Game Review
Hello, fellow gamers! Welcome back to another edition of "Veteran Game". Today, we're diving into a fantastic mecha game, Nimbus INFINITY. We all remember the thrill of Project Nimbus from 2017, with its simplistic yet deeply engaging mech combat, and beautiful world-building that resonated with all mech fans. Nimbus INFINITY not only brings back those elements but also improves upon them, effectively applying the lessons learned from its predecessor.
Nimbus INFINITY, set in a future where humans have expanded their horizons beyond Earth, truly captures the essence of the timeless classics that have inspired it. A significant part of its appeal comes from its lovingly crafted tributes to iconic mecha series. It's evident in every element of the game, from the level design to key moments of narrative, that this isn't just a game, but a heartfelt ode to the mecha genre.
The story puts you in the shoes of Taiyo, a seemingly average tofu delivery pilot who suddenly finds himself in possession of an experimental Battle Frame. The classic mecha trope of an unsuspecting youth becoming the only capable pilot of a highly advanced mecha is certainly not a novel premise, but it does manage to evoke a sense of familiarity. Although I would have loved to see a more unique twist on this classic setup, the narrative is far from disappointing.
The game seamlessly merges the elements of a visual novel and a mech combat game, offering players a compelling narrative told through visual novel format, intertwined with intense combat sequences. It strikes a balance that ensures neither aspect overshadows the other, providing an excellent blend of story and action. Furthermore, the Survival Mode significantly enhances the replay value, offering hours of intense battles.
The gameplay mechanics are exactly what any mecha fan could ask for. The controls are user-friendly, promising a smooth gaming experience. The combat system offers both accessibility for beginners and enough depth for veterans to develop their unique play style. Every mission provides an opportunity to customize your loadout, making every battle feel personal and strategic.
Nimbus INFINITY succeeds in capturing the exhilarating essence of the mecha genre by focusing on action rather than tactics or simulation. It's a testament to the game developers' deep love for the genre, creating an immersive and thrilling experience that reminds us of our favorite mecha anime moments.
However, Nimbus INFINITY isn't without its flaws. Some levels feel like an exercise in frustration rather than a well-designed challenge. The urban settings, in particular, feel like static set pieces that lack interactivity, a sharp contrast to games like Zone of the Enders where environmental destruction can lead to mission failure. Furthermore, certain levels that turn into bullet hells due to random enemy spawning can lead to moments of sheer frustration.
Despite these issues, Nimbus INFINITY manages to deliver an enjoyable experience overall, providing a taste of everything we love about mecha games. Yes, there are a few bumps in the road, but they hardly detract from the overall thrill of the game.
To sum it up, Nimbus INFINITY is a love letter to all things mecha. Its action, story, and the numerous homages to iconic series all come together to form an experience crafted by mecha fans, for mecha fans. While it does have its share of shortcomings, they're minor enough to overlook in favor of the sheer joy it delivers. In the grand scheme of things, Nimbus INFINITY is exactly what a mecha fan would want from a mecha game. So go ahead, buckle up, and let's enjoy this mecha journey together!
