Q3Rally (2000) - Every PC Rally Game
0Q3Rally by Perle/insellium (and others), 2000.
A sort-of follow-up to 1997's Quake Rally, Q3Rally uses the Quake III Arena engine to power it's gameplay. Handling fairly similar, if better, with much better graphics, this has recently continued with development in 2021, thanks to Perle (aka P3rlE) and insellium, and can now run standalone from Quake III Arena. Note: there is a bug with the engine sound currently (v0.3c), with near constant minor breakup. You can, however, switch on music, which masks the issue a lot. It is in their to-do list, so it's a known bug. Also the game seems to run at around 91fps for me (regardless of how I set up my graphics card), so the frame rate of this video might not be perfectly smooth, but it looks smooth on screen!
This game doesn't really include many typical rally cars, preferring to focus on sports cars mostly. Track-wise there is some variety, and I've included clips from a couple of 3rd party extra tracks (also downloadable from the site above).
Overall, once again, another unexpected use of a 3D shooter engine as a rally game! But this game isn't the last shooter to be turned into a rally game that I'll cover...
