SimRaceWay (2011) - Every PC Rally Game
SimRaceWay by Ignite Game Technologies, 2011.
SimRaceWay is an rFactor-engine-based online racing simulation. Launching in public beta in 2011, it's gradually fallen more-and-more offline, so that only people who are already signed up can actually still access it. Thanks to the assistance of former team member Cossacco, who unlocked all the paid content, I was able to make this video, covering the rally aspects of the game.
Car-wise, there's the SimRaceWay 6XJ4, a fictional car based on the engine from the Metro 6R4 and some styling of the similarly-engined Jaguar XJ220. It's basically a near Group B level pocket rocket. I've also thrown in a Mitsubishi Evo X (road car) and Alpine A110 (race car, but looks rally enough!), for some variety.
The rally handling is fairly decent, similar to other rFactor-engined games with offroad content, like Automobilista, although the cars (on default settings at least) hop along dusty/sandy surfaces, which are modeled as hard terrain, most likely due to rFactor's focus on tarmac circuits.
SimRaceWay gradually died a death due to high licensing and running costs. Apparently over 600 real-life cars were licensed, with correct liveries (as opposed to allowing users to create their own to fill in missing ones). Upcoming cars would have included a 2011 Ken Block Ford Fiesta WRC, but you can only see an incomplete version in the Garage of the game as it is now, so perhaps much more rally content might have been seen in the future.
Overall a bit of a "might have been" situation, compounded by the fact it was available outside of common platforms like Steam.
Note: the TV camera views were recorded in real-time, as replays weren't working for me, hence the less-than-stellar driving!
