A specialty among the "gun & run" FPS genre of games popularized by DOOM & Quake alike, Thief brought a different style of FPS gameplay that focused on stealth, sneak up & blackjack from behind the guards. The game surely gathered its fans base and enjoyed the numerous fans' mods, textures enhancement packs & source-port.

For the game's originality, QEMU fully preserves the game in "pristine condition". This is the 2-CD Eidos USA re-release of Thief Gold in 1999. The release was already patched up to the last official version 1.37. No additional patches/mods are required, no TFix/NewDark/DDFIX what so ever. Just rip the CDs, install & play, as simple as that. The complete originality of game experience, including full cinematic cutscenes, is being restored to perfection within QEMU Virtual Machine on modern systems, Windows, Linux and macOS alike.

Though the CD installer refused to install the game on WinXP VM, the game installed with Win98 VM works out just as great with WinXP VM. The game is moderate on CPU requirements and with modern CPUs, even QEMU TCG will be fine for 30 FPS gameplay. When KVM/WHPX is activated, QEMU acceleration delivers an all-time 60 FPS V-SYNC locked gameplay, even on thin & light laptops.
