19It is another boring 3DMarks video for an overkilled and rather pointless NVIDIA RTX 2050 Mobile on modern Windows 11 laptop. Personally, discrete GPUs are rather pointless for laptops these days. Both Intel and AMD integrated APU/GPU are generally good enough for Retro Gaming with Good Old Games. Nevertheless, NVIDIA OpenGL remains the BEST in legacy compatibility by retaining most OpenGL extensions used in Good Old Games or even versions of WineD3D. Probably a good excuse for scientific researchers to expense their research grants in the name of CUDA "on-the-go" in the days while fragging DOOM 3 or Unreal Tournament 2004 in the nights.🤣 It's also called work-life balance....
For the project qemu-3dfx, the RTX 2050 equipped laptop provides additional coverage to qualify for NVIDIA-Optimus technology, the way NVIDIA squeezed a discrete GPU into thermally constrained profile. Unlike on the desktop, the NVIDIA GPU is display-less while using the built-in panel and rendered frames are copied and displayed through Intel Graphics. It is presumed that modern Windows 11 WDDM driver model would have all the necessary plumbing support in-placed to make such happen seamlessly. It is also a testament to MESAGL/3Dfx Glide passthrough simplicity that everything just work out-of-box AS-IS without tinkering. Switching GPU for QEMU is just a simple option in Windows Graphics settings of either "Power-Saving" or "High-Performance".
