An enhanced Diablo hack-and-slash clone by Delphine Software, Darkstone (1999) endorsed DirectX 6.1 Direct3D acceleration on low-poly models. The game was quite a nostalgia and remains fun to play till this day. It was one of its kind touting endless replay-ability through randomly generated dungeons and monsters, variety of character classes, solo or A.I. assisted double-play and co-op network multiplayers.
It is also considered a low framerate game that anything between 15 FPS and 30 FPS is pretty well playable. The rendering resolution is fixed at 640x480. QEMU featuring qemu-3dfx has once again fully preserved the Game in "pristine condition" and retail originality. Only the official patches were applied to update the game to the final retail version at 1.05B. The game 640x480 resolution can be up-stretched to *ANY* resolution for modern display.
It is a game to bring along on laptop, firing it up at anytime & anywhere for an occasional FUNs of hack-and-slash dungeon crawling adventures. The game plays very well on several different environments, Win98/XP VMs as well as Linux VMs with WINE, from any kind of Hosts, any modern Linux, Windows 10/11 and macOS for QEMU virtual machines.
And, don't miss out the soothing music "The Darkstone Will Shine" by Audren.
