QEMU Getting DRUNK in Wine 9.0 Experimental WoW64
A future technology demo on Wine highly experimental WoW64 that enables running legacy 32-bit and 64-bit x86 Windows codes in foreign architectures on modern Linux VM. An up-to-date QEMU version 9.0.0 used as both host virtualization and Linux x86-64 user-space emulation on guest. QEMU Virgil 3D delivers OpenGL graphics acceleration for Wine.
As Wine highly experimental WoW64, not everything works as perfectly as hoped. Some Windows EXEs simply refuse to execute properly and flooded in unhandled exception. Other issues include crippling OpenGL performance due to unsupported ARB_buffer_storage in WoW64 mode and a totally broken WineVDM making WIN16 binary support a serious miss, especially for old games with 16-bit installers. As Linux VM on Apple macOS, QEMU Virgil 3D is also limited to OpenGL 2.1. It is projected to work better on Asahi Linux that has recently achieved OpenGL ES 3.2 and very likely an equivalent of OpenGL 4.4 desktop profile on the reverse-engineered AppleAGX graphics stacks from MESA.
Despite such infancy status, it remains plausible by achieving true 3D graphics acceleration and rather smooth real-time audio playback. The show has whatever "Trash"Boxes or "JUNK_PC"em beaten to the punch by having ATI Rage128 "Dawning" demo before the hyped & rumored ATI Rage128 emulation. (😚 whispering... wasn't it such a STUPID idea to even emulate ATI Rage128?!!🤣) Amid all the **Accuracy \*BS\***, it would be quite a show if ATI Rage128 emulation would ever be unveiled in the "Dawning" of refuting the emulation **\*STUPIDITY\***.
