The Longest Journey TLJ and the sequel in the series Dreamfall, are Windows-only releases, single-player point & click graphics adventures, fully restored on QEMU in an absolute "pristine condition". Thanks to the final official 1.64 patch for Dreamfall that removed Starforce/SecureROM DRMs on retailed CD/DVD versions, it made both into wonderful collectible Windows Games for retro gaming. For the fans of the series, the long awaited sequel was well worth it as Dreamfall completely overhauled the Game with modern Direct3D9 SM2.0 rendering engine, in any modernish high-resolution, aspect ratios, game controllers support and EAX audio effects. With QEMU featuring qemu-3dfx, Direct3D9 SM2.0+ rendering is highly optimized and even the 2018 Ryzen 2500U with Vega Graphics is capable at delivering an almost 60 FPS experience in the BEST and HIGHEST quality. For TLJ, while the game only supports 640x480, WineD3D upscale was put into action to enhance modern playability for such old games at ANY high resolutions.
AMD software had significantly improved OpenGL performance & quality on Windows for the entire fleets of Radeon/Vega Graphics. Dreamfall wasn't quite feasible back then with the 2018 Vega Graphics in 20W mobile profile. Now, the performance of AMD OpenGL reflects precisely in WineD3D for QEMU MESAGL use cases. It feels so great for true GPU acceleration that QEMU would deliver for retro gaming. On the contrary, whatever "Trash"Boxes or "JUNK_PC"em continue to be LOST in the Accuracy *\*BS\** . Neither RIVA TNT nor Rage 128 Pro fall under emulation feasibility. Even those ever become reality in emulation, Dreamfall's Direct3D9 SM2.0 remains unreachable. A minimum of Radeon 9500 or Geforce FX is required. While the Voodoos emulation may be suffice for TLJ, such CPU rendered 3D acceleration is as good as USELESS when the CPU are overloaded causing audio break-ups. Isn't it a BIG F**king JOKE when anyone even call out a sound card emulation on "Trash"Boxes or "JUNK_PC"em that can do EAX for a full Windows 98 experience...🤣🤣 Well for QEMU, it just let DSOAL/OpenAL-Soft deal with EAX. Anyway truth to be told, while Dreamfall supports EAX, I wasn't familiar with the game enough to be able to "hear" the "differences". So, it's just a "feel-good" demo that "I can do EAX on my Games".🤣 Feel free to comment under the video on how to spot the differences with EAX 3/4 enhancements in Dreamfall.
QEMU with 3D acceleration for legacy Windows 98/XP guests for retro gaming is The Longest Journey I have been waiting. For almost 20+ years, nothing much had happened. As Dreamfall it might have been, the journey into Game Preservation has always been FUNs and rejoiced. Nowadays, we also have the likes of SoftGPU for VirtualBox & VMware, even VirtIO GPU 3D acceleration for Windows is on the horizon. Regardless if all those were merely coincidence, it is a pleasure & honor to put a â›”STOPâ›” of Accuracy *\*BS\** in playing Good Old Windows Games.
