Quake in 2023
0i hated Quake when i first played it... because tbh it looked horrible, the colour palatte was basically six shades of shit & the primative 3D models just were'nt as pleasing to my eye compared to the 2D sprites of games like Duke Nukem 3D, plus the game felt extremely repetitive, the levels were kinda dull & the guns werent exactly creative
playing it back these days in hi-res, i have a new found respect for just how good it is (& how wrong i was) the mood & fast paced gameplay is awesome
i also love the way this game looks with software rendering in a high resolution, the pixelated art style has such a clean defined look about it & imo has aged much more gracefully compared to the smudge of 3D accelerated rendering
