Rainbow Islands - Taito's unusual Bubble Bobble follow up - Sega Master System
I hope you are all happy, safe & healthy whatever challenges you are facing right now.
Capture challenges. i had some issues with my capture card but those are mostly now sorted.
While I was trying to sort my capture card I ended up using an alternate solution & while capturing New Zealand Story & Chase HQ on Master System had to come up with an alternate approach as neither works well at 60 Hz (New Zealand Story plays way too fast including its music & Chase HQ the road graphics glitch like crazy). So I had to improvise a bit in order to capture from real hardware - in this case my PAL Sega MultiMega. Capture cards don't seem to play nicely with 50Hz although I got there in the end through the use of an OSSC. This is why these three videos look a little different - I've tried to crop all the overscan etc too.

This is Rainbow Islands on Sega Master System. This was a port of Taito's arcade hi & is part of the Bubble Bobble franchise. This time Bub & Bob have been turned into human form & use Rainbows as both platforms & as a weapon. Dropping the rainbows will allow you to collect 7 coloured diamonds resulting in collecting the big diamond upon defeating the boss then allowing a choice of treasure or talking. It also allows the true ending etc
The port to Master System is outstanding with colourful graphics, faithful gameplay & more from the arcade although sadly it loses the two player option making it a single player only experience.. With tons of levels & secrets to find & that "one more go" factor this is a brilliant game & a fantastic port. Taito really were on a roll at the time!
This is my original PAL copy from back in the day played through a Powerbase convertor on my PAL MultiMega through a OSSC for ease of capture. I have Rainbow Islands as well as some other Taito arcade ports I'll be showing soon.
