Rainbow Six Siege: Rook Operator Guide- The Armorer
Hello and welcome to my Rook opetator guide! Rook is a GIGN Defensive operator. He can equip the P90 submachine gun, the MP5 submachine gun, or the SG-CQB shotgun as his primary weapon. I prefer the P90 for its high firerate and large magazine, but the MP5 is also a great recommendation since its easier to control. The SG-CQB isn't that bad either if you prefer shotguns. Honestly all his primaries are good it really just depends on your play style. If you prefer a large mag and a high fire rate take the P90, if you like submachine guns but want something easier to control and is better at longer distances take the MP5, and if you like to shut people down with one to two shotgun shells take the SG-CQB. For his secondaries Rook can equip the LFP586 Revolver and the P9 handgun. In my opinion you should take the revolver if you want more stopping power or take the P9 if you like larger magazines. His secondary gadgets are the deployable shield or barbed wire. This choice also depends on your play style since Rook is a very flexable character. He makes both a great objective defender and a roamer. If you prefer to roam grab the barbed wire, if you prefer to defend the objective take the deployable shield to provide some extra cover. Now finally Rook's special ability. Rook is not a really complex character. All he really has to do is drop his armor pack at the start of every round. This makes him one of the easiest operators to play as if you're new to Siege. This is also what makes Rook a great roamer, once he drops his armor pack he's free to play the round as you would in any shooter. This means he is excellent at securing trap doors above the objective area. The only downside to roaming as Rook is that he's a bit slow. He's not as fast as some of the other defensive operators like Bandit or Jager. Now lets get back to the armor pack. The hardest thing about the armor pack is making sure all your team mates pick it up. There are usually one or two people that don't see it and will not pick it up. This is bad because if an enemy find the armor pack they can actually use it as well which is bad for your team because you don't want the enemy to have more armor. The armor pack does add a little more defense, you'll be able to take (on average) on extra bullet. Now as useless as this sounds it's saved me in many gunfights where I would have been dead if not for the armor plating. The armor also increases the chance that you'll go down but not die. This means you'll at least have a chance to crawl over to a team mate instead of just dying when you got shot. This also means that Rook will combo excellently with Doc. If you go down more often due to the armor plates Doc can revive you with his stim pistol. There really isn't any counters to Rook since all he has to do is lay down his armor pack. Now to summarize all of Rook's weapons have merit and it really just depends on your play style. When playing as Rook you need to drop the armor pack at the very start of the round and make sure your entire team picks it up so the enemy doesn't have the chance to steal them. Rook is very flexable, he can be a great defender or roam, but note that Rook moves slower than some of the other operator which might make you reconsider roaming. His armor plating lets you take one extra bullet and increases your chances of going down and not dying. Rook is a excellent operator for players that are new to Siege and new to the operator system.
