12you saw that trailer for the sonic x shadow generations thing that was leaked a few weeks ago, right? yeah, i am fucking so incredibly disappointed in that shit. not only is it a seemingly very barebones remaster of half-decent-nostalgia-bait: the game, but they also decided to make it worth your while of paying for the same game again by adding some shadow shit in, which at most will make up for 1/4th of the game total. the sonic fanbase equivalent of the rabid tendies and snoys which i take such joy in making fun of are shitting their pants over black doom and how le epic it is that they're "making shadow the hedgehog canon" which is total bullshit because the 3ds versions of gens isn't canon. this is just going to be a different version of gens with slight differences, of course it's not going to be canon. it bothers me that people are okay with this. gens is barely even ten years old and is literally still available on steam and a billion other websites yet rabid fans will shit their pants over the new rerelease because of the epic new additions and how (i guess) it is easier to obtain and set up. if you do this you are subhuman and should be enslaved or killed. i'm so incredibly done with the mainline sonic series' nostalgia pandering that started with gens and hit the peak with mania and has seemingly been riding that wave ever since. mania was a good game but the only original games it was better than were 1 and chaotix, and the only thing mania did was further push the message to game reviewers and the general non-sonic-fan populous that "muh only good sonic games are the 2d ones!!!!" and then sold a gorillion copies and made the common man care about sonic to whatever extent. sega is scared to do anything new and that sucks. i used to blame that on 06 but really it was up until gens that they were still being creative and fun. much as i think unleashed is a "meh" game the werehog is a really cool idea and would be a lot better if he controlled better and the stages didn't take the length of a childbirth. gens marked the time at which sega realized that the best way to make money among non-sonic fans and sonic fans is to just pander to classic[slur]s. i fucking love sonic, always have and always will. but surely there comes a point where other people get fed up with the pandering and scummy tactics just like they would for any other company, right? i don't like talking about the mongolian basket weaving forum here because frankly it comes off as gay as fuck but v is literally the only place that i've seen people not be terribly happy with this new release. everywhere else, twitter, other people i've talked to about it, whatever, it's the same shit of "SHADOW IS SO COOL!!!! I LOVE SONIC GENERATIONS!!!!" and while shadow is cool and while gens is a decent game, it's not enough to justify spending 60 dollars on a rerelease to most people. or maybe it is and the average sonic fan just has deeper pockets than i do - i'm not terribly good with money, to be fair - but i don't know how people are able to keep up with buying new game releases. tekken 8 is fucking 90 dollars FOR THE BASE VERSION and not to mention it being some 125 gigabytes, for example. now, no sonic game will ever be that large, but frontiers was like 80 dollars.
i guess i can't blame the ching chong chinaman company for doing what sells, because at the end of the day making the big yen is what every game company is in it for, but nostalgia pandering is the least sustainable business model the way i see it. you can only use classic sonic so many times before people get tired of it and people have been sick of green hill zone for years now. i guess if they really wanted to pander they could do sonic adventure remakes and if they did those and did them well i'd buy 'em. there's that one leak from a while ago that i saw again recently that outlined/outlines the sonic series releases throughout the decade and frankly it is scarily accurate and might actually be legit, so i guess by 2027 we'll be seeing remakes of the greatest game ever made and the most overrated game in the franchise. people have been sold the lie of sa2 being this masterpiece for years and while the story is probably the second best in the series the gameplay is just fucking terrible. i still love the series at the end of the day.
you hear about movie 3, too? i've not seen any of the sonic movies, no sir. i assumed they'd be boring slop for kids but apparently the second one is alright outside of what i can gather being half of the movie being taken up by bootleg madea for the modern generation. if 3 has live and learn and/or any of the shadow themes i might watch it. you see jim carrey is back, too? i've never been a movie guy and the only movies that i like are the '86 transformers movie and napoleon dynamite along with a few takeshi kitano movies so i don't know much about carrey but he seems like a good actor.
