The year: 2009. The game: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. The much anticipated sequel to Call of Duty 4. Me? Crashing on the floor of my bother’s apartment with nothing but a tv, Xbox 360 and twin mattress, you know, the essentials. Fast forward 14 years later, the year? 2023. The game? The original MW2. In other words… S.S.D.D. Thanks Shepherd! With classic lines that one and this one “the more things change, the more they stay the same.” It was hard believe that enough time had passed for one of my favorite games to remastered and rebooted.

I felt old, elderly and sleepy… for about 2 minutes. It didn’t take long for me to realize that my senior discount days are still years and years away, because oh baby, once that iconic music hit, I was in 2009 again and the boys were back in town, who were badder and deadlier than ever. New characters, new weapons, Soap with a Mohawk and voice but, of course, sometimes, you just can’t beat a classic (Captain Price).

From the snowy mountains, to the Favela, Nate’s restaurant and all the way to Burger Town, some unforgettable missions, a controversial one and of course the betrayal of the century… the memories from this instant classic immediately came flooding back.

Set 5 years after Call of Duty 4, Modern Warfare 2 follows a fight around the world and even in our own backyard. With Sergeant Foley’s Rangers, General Shepherd’s Shadow Company and Task Force 141, no one and nothing stood a chance… until I got involved. Moving on!

I haven’t played this game in about 10 years and one thing I noticed almost immediately is the lack of cutscenes throughout the game, which of course is kinda replaced with the long loading screens, compared to most of Call of Duty games today, which have quite a bit of cutscenes, there was never really a moment in where you couldn’t look around or even fire a weapon while you were waiting for next firefight to start.

With 14 years of glory, I’m always going to say, that it’s absolutely worth revisiting this game or playing it for the first time, not just for the story and voice acting alone, but the visuals and my favorite part, the music.

For me, Modern Warfare 2 is one of those games that you wish you could experience for the first time again and not that it matters so much, but I’m gonna the original MW2 a 9/10. So it’s going to sit on the board with Call of Duty 4 for now until I can finish out this legendary trilogy.
