In this episode of Retro Flashback, I take a look at the NES version of Spelunker, the spiritual predecessor and inspiration for hit indie title, Spelunky. This game is available on a ton of platforms but the NES one I find interesting as it came out from a primarily educational software company. It shares a lot in common with Spelunky, including a brutal difficulty which was uncommon even for games of this era.

The NES version of Spelunker can be purchased digitally on the Wii Virtual Console which is available through the Wii Shop Channel.
