Retro Flashback: Super Stardust (Amiga CD32)
In this episode of Retro Flashback, I take a look at Super Stardust for the Amiga CD32. This is an enhanced version of the first game by Housemarque (known as Bloodhouse at the time), a fantastic small Finnish developer that still puts out great, smaller, mechanics driven games to this day. You can see the DNA that would lead to some of their incredible modern titles like Super Stardust HD and Resogun, which launches along side the PlayStation 4 the day this video goes up. Despite being much more mechanically and technically simpler than those, the core fun loop is still present here and this is still an incredibly fun game, even all these years later. It shows the immense talent that Housemarque has nurtured for so long.
Super Stardust is not currently available for digital purchase but versions are available for AGA based Amiga computers, the CD32 and for MS-DOS.
NOTE: Due to problems with Dxtory capture (yet again), the aspects ratios in the footage are slightly off and a bit of the top and bottom screen UI is cut off. I wasn't able to correct this in time but it makes a nearly negligible difference to the presentation.
