Retro Flashback: Ninja Combat (Neo-Geo)
In this episode of Retro Flashback, I take a look at Ninja Combat for the Neo-Geo. This is the third in my "quadfecta" of Neo-Geo launch titles that were available at my local arcade and it's another that was developed by Alpha-Denshi/ADK. However, unlike Magician Lord which was flawed but showed promise, this game is just outright bad. Boring combat, overuse of the same voice samples, hilariously bad visuals that include character sprites that don't change perspective with screen position and an almost comically short length, this was SNK wanting a quick and dirty answer to Final Fight or Streets of Rage and ADK simply being unable to deliver. I have memories or it but sadly, they aren't good ones.
Programming Note: I'm between microphones right now so my commentary sound quality isn't as good. Fear not, it'll improve notably very soon.
Ninja Combat is available for digital purchase on the Wii Virtual Console which can be accessed through the Wii Shop Channel. It is also part of the ADK Tamashii retail collection which is available for PlayStation 2 only in Japan.
