Phew. I'm impressed that I actually managed to finish the base game this time. Granted, that's exactly what I was hoping to do. But it seems like my plans with DOOM 3 have gone awry since about the second session. What's even more impressive is that I didn't even have to "go into overtime" for this one. I wrapped things up around 1AM, which is my usual time. Considering the fact that seven levels is probably the most I've been able to tackle in a single stream, it's definitely encouraging. Of course, this last session also had a few short levels, so that probably helped me get to the end. On the other hand, it was a pain in the ass that coming back *from* Hell also removed most of your weapons, though it was a funny coincidence that the first two weapons I got back on the space station were the ones that Hell wouldn't give me.

The first "true" boss that capped off the Hell level was probably the toughest in the game, but the weird part is that the bosses just got weaker and weaker as the game progressed. Sarge was definitely a pain in the ass to fight, but a lot of that stemmed from the fact that he uses the BFG himself -- and that sucker hurts like hell. Fortunately, I had a surplus of rockets, so I eventually managed to destroy him. The final boss, on the other hand, I beat on my first try with no real concerns about dying. The Soul Cube is absolutely broken, considering the fact that even fodder enemies can basically give you 100 health in one go. Fighting off those two Imp variants to keep it charged wasn't so bad either, considering the weapons cache right before it. Spam plasma and chain gun to wipe them out and then toss the Cube at the boss, rinse and repeat. It probably would've been smarter to switch out the enemy types after each hit with the Soul Cube. Maybe make the last phase involve Hell Knights or Arch Viles... though Arch Viles might actually be more of a help than a hinderance given the context.

I'm beginning to think that KI was either wrong about the stamina in Hell... or that was just another change they made for the BFG Edition. Honestly, being able to compare being in and out of Hell again, I think Hell might actually disable your sprint outright. Annoying, but I guess it plays into the survival horror aspect of the game. Changing it to an infinite sprint for the BFG Edition would also make the game feel more like Classic DOOM and would be a relatively easy fix. Oh well, that's just my theory. Tracking down a complete list of changes just feels too annoying to bother.

My Hallow-streams for 2023 aren't quite done yet though. I'm planning to tackle Resurrection of Evil next. I'm hoping that I can finish six levels on Sunday, just to allow for an even split. But either way, I'd like to finish RoE in the span of a week. Sure, letting this little seasonal gimmick spill into November has pretty much become a tradition at this point, but I'd like to get back to business as usual with the last of my bonus streams as soon as possible.
