I've said it before and I'll say it again: I love it when a plan comes together. I was hoping that I'd be able to wrap up RoE in two streams and when I got through the first half of the expansion last time, I figured it was going to be a slam dunk to finish up this time around. I just wish that I could have finished up this year's batch of Hallow-streams before October ended. Oh well, at least it didn't go as far into overtime as previous years. Maybe I'll be able to do it next year.

I have to say, I wasn't expecting to fight the third and final guardian as early in this session as I did. Considering how there were four levels between the first and second ones, I figured I wouldn't face down with it until the ninth level. The Berserk power-up didn't really get that much time to shine on its own. On the plus side, I did manage to figure out that activating the Artifact just gives you all of the power-ups at once. I just wish it could've held more than three charges at a time. I left so many human souls laying around... and then when I needed the boost, I barely had enough to scrape by.

The final level in Hell was a real pain in the ass. Granted, this does make sense thematically. But forcing me to blast through a gauntlet of Hell Knights, Imps and Mancubuses (Mancubi?) in a barely visible arena surrounded by bottomless death pits? What a pain. I am kind of surprised that both times when I relented and decided to go all-in on save scumming, I ended up not needing them. Saving at 2% health after that arena gauntlet was bad enough. But then I decided to do the same thing on the final boss, before not needing it.

Speaking of which, that final confrontation with Betrüger basically summarizes everything I hate about boss fights in FPSes. Another arena surrounded by bottomless pits, Betrüger constantly flies on and off-screen and hordes of enemy fodder keep getting spawned to distract you from your main target. It's kind of disappointing after how good that last Guardian of Hell boss fight was. Honestly, I think I ended up spending the most time on that final fight compared to the rest of the game... but maybe it just felt that way due to how annoying it was. The fact that he attacks you literally right after the cutscene ends made me wary of skipping it, but eventually I could do that first dodge on auto-pilot.

I'm not sure if I'll ever end up playing The Lost Episode. While some enterprising modders did manage to backport the BFG Edition exclusive mini-campaign into the older version of the game, it feels wrong playing it outside of the mod. On the other hand, if I need to beat the main campaign again on the BFG Edition to unlock it, I probably won't ever end up playing it. But if it's unlocked from the start, I'd consider offering it as a mid-length game in a future Hallow-stream line-up. At the moment, the slot that was previously taken by Clock Tower is already spoken for, but who knows? Maybe I'll offer seven choices per category next time. Either way, next time, it'll be back to wrapping up my final batch of bonus streams for 2023.
