Road & Track Presents: The Need for Speed
More commonly known only as Need for Speed, this is the game that spawned the whole franchise, and wouldn't you believe it but this was my entry point into it! Not that I really kept up playing the NFS games after it, but I did tell my friends at the time about it. Funny how that is, I played so many games, and told them about it, and then they refused to acknowledge that I had told them that. No I'm not bitter at all 25+ years later!
Anyway!
I think I played this on PC first though I am not sure if I perhaps did play it on 3DO... Hmm.. My father had a friend who was huge into all kinds of computers as I have written about before ( most notably in my Alien 3 playthrough ) and among the many games he introduced to me was Need for Speed. I always found the rival to be a piece of ¤#"% but a memorable one. I remember driving on this huge canyong stage that I guess would be set in Arizona. What I like about this game is the number of videos and how indepth it goes, explaining about the different cars and stuff. I am certainly not a car fan but I do enjoy hearing when people know what they're talking about like this. It gets you hooked even if they blabber on a bit too long but I really appreciate these videos you get here.
It really tells you—THIS is a game for CAR ENTHUSIASTS!
I don't think modern racing games does this. At least not any that I've played or heard of.
Shame really.
Honestly, I miss this era of gaming. When Electronic Arts were proud to boast they were all about Electronic ARTISTS. Unlike today where they only boast about their revenue...
