RoboCop Longplay (C64) [50 FPS]
Developed and published by Ocean in 1989.
The C64 version of RoboCop is something of an anomaly. On the one hand it has good graphics and a brilliant soundtrack by Jonathan Dunn, whilst on the other, it was completely ruined by some sloppy glitches that made the original release unplayable.
Firstly, the ridiculous time limit on level 5 (drug factory) means that you could never finish the level without abusing a glitch that allowed you to pass through walls. Make it past level 5 and you definitely won't get past 7 as the graphics are completely screwed; just about every version, including cracks had the problem.
That was the case until ElfKaa of Hokuto Force managed to create a working version that added 30 seconds to the timer on level 5, as well as clearing up the glitched graphics on level 7. This is the version I've recorded.
As for the game itself, it's similar to the Data East arcade version although the levels are laid out differently and appear in a different order. The main objective is to just hold down the fire button and waste anything that moves.
The photo-fit bonus round makes an appearance, but the game automatically scrolls through the different images, requiring the player to hit the fire button at the correct moment to select the right part.
Even without the glitches, there are too many design flaws (inability to shoot whilst on lifts or on stairs properly!) that detract from an otherwise decent movie tie-in.
