13Disco Elysium’s setting is both deeply bleak and refreshingly silly, the region of Revachol shown to the player being scarred by the ideological conflicts of the past but comfortable in its lawlessness. No other RPG has chosen to be set in this type of environment, despite it clearly being an interesting setting. Is it possible to discern a reason for Disco Elysium’s setting from it’s gameplay, presentation, and narrative?
