Indie games have been extremely ambitious in recent years and the number of mega hits that have surpassed their ambitions has probably led many other developers to reach for those same heights. In 2017, a brand new studio would endeavour to emulate Breath of the Wild’s freeform exploration mechanics and place it within a world designed to generate screenshots from every vantage. The project would be in development for almost 4 full years, and while they did achieve their primary goals with the game, Sable is often weighed down by it’s poor polish and stretching of compelling content. Under most circumstances such a lengthy development time would have had plenty of time to eliminate those problems, but Shedworks have released the game in a rather buggy state. Was the developer aiming too high and some oversight in their design has resulted in these problems? Or did the team simply lack the capability to achieve their ambitions in the first place?
