Dear Diary - I cannot believe that I slept on this game back in 2010. Really it's an accusation against my whole ethos as a gamer that I do not sufficiently focus on playing some of the great gaming franchises that have a long storied history in our hobby. The Prince of Persia series is just one of those. There are several others. Fortunately, I do have a healthy pursuit of crawling through my backlog for games that I may have missed.
Forgotten Sands is the game that was released concurrently with the Jake Gyllenhaal movie. I don't think it is a line-by-line scripted tie-in with the game. If it is, it's one of the better licensed (reverse licensed? the game begat the movie that begat the game?) tie-ins that has ever been done. I really like the combat in this title. It feels wonderfully fluid but also sufficiently brutal. Prince Jake is a brawler, as well as a Florentine swordsman of the nth degree. Puzzles are not (yet) of the type that frustrate me in third-person games. And there are some undesirable situations where the camera does not allow for full 360 degree rotation. But despite those nits, I really loved my time in this. And the game holds fairly well over time. Score one win for the backlog.
