RPCS3 | Why Is the PS3 so Hard to Emulate?
RPCS3 is a great PS3 emulator. But PS3 emulation is still very difficult, even on a ps3 emulator like RPCS3. So the question is, why is ps3 emulation still so difficult on an almost 14 year old console? Why are so many games, like The Last of Us, still not fully playable on RPCS3 even after all these years while newer console emulators are catching up? It has a lot to do with the Cell microprocessor and the PowerPC architecture used to build this console, and today I explain why this is.
This video was mainly spurred by the fact that I want to emulate The Last of Us on RPCS3, and I was curious as to why it was so hard. This isn't a perfect explanation of everything, but it'll give you a rudimentary understanding as to why the PS3 is hard to emulate and why RPCS3 is hard to run.
RPCS3 is a multi-platform open-source Sony PlayStation 3 emulator and debugger written in C++ for Windows, Linux and BSD.
