RTX 3080 or other gpu blackscreen fans max crash solution
13so i believe i have found the issue, the vrms on my card are overheating because the thermalpads are completely depleted i mean i got the card end of 2020 or beginning of 2021 so they are probably dried up by now, if you are experiencing a similar issue check the thermalpads if you have a rtx 3080 or even 4 series then chances are your card is 3 years old and by then the thermalpads are guranteed to be useless it's not a question if it's a question of is, you can't measure vrm temp on a graphics card so you may get perfect temp readings as i did which was 75 degrees while the vrms are overheating sadly there is nothing that can meassure vrm temp so i was clueless, i obviously can't know untill i use fresh pads again, but all evidence points to vrm overheating.
tip to nvidia please have the nvidia app check the age on a gpu and recommend thermal paste or thermal pad replacement after a certain time make it clear that overheating vrms can cause these exact crashes, not everyone knows or thinks about this force them to think about this, changing thermal pads is like changing oil it's not a do it for better performance it's a you must do it.
open msi afterburner and either reduce core voltage and memory clock in my case i had to reduce to minus 250 which was no solution at all but it worked, but the best solution was simply to set power limit to 70%, undervolting was not it as someone recommended.
your card is not failing on you it's just in need of new thermalpads
as soon as i set power limit to 100 it takes about 3 min and it crashes, but 70% is stable as you saw in the video
i see a alot of videos on youtube on black screen fans max crashes and noone helps noone even knows why as you can't diagnose this issue with benchmarks or readings, a burntest does not even touch the vrms which is pretty insane, it took me weeks even months to figure this out so i wanted to let everyone know CHECK YOUR THERMAL PADS
now i will open my card and swap my thermalpads then hopefully make a video of that map mod i mentioned if my friend is interested in letting me, if i am right which i most likely am as i've done every type of test known to man.
