Nvidia's RTX 40 graphics cards are rumored to launch late next year at the earliest, but with a huge leak in performance over the GeForce RTX 30.
Lovelace (RTX 40) is going to be a brand new architecture, and offer well north of 2.0x performance over RTX 30.
But, in terms of power consumption according to my sources, yes - we're looking at Lovelace consuming over 400 watts of power. What is less clear is if these are the highest end AIB SKUs, or if these are the FE cards (although I am learning towards the latter).
RTX 40 will compete against AMD's Navi 3x line of cards. And according to what I've been told, Navi 31 (which is an MCM / chiplet design) will have a power target of just 350W at its highest.
This means that if the information is true, RTX 40 lovelace will be slower in traditional raster performance compared to that of navi 31, but also consume more power.
The debate is right now whether these performance targets are measuring the same thing as one another, and also whether or not the RTX 40 cards will have an advantage in some tasks such as hardware based ray tracing which geforce cards enjoyed over radeon for rdna 2 / ampere generation.
Both Navi 31 and RTX 40 lovelace will likely release tail end of 2022, meaning that we're almost certainly going to see the refresh of RDNA 2 and Ampere launch first, and Intel's DX DG2 cards.
