Ruffian was a game I only found out about because of the LemonAmiga database. I saw the screenshot and instantly wanted to play it. Now thanks to the internet I could. But hidden behind those graphics is quite a boring game, and although I enjoyed this more than Tearaway Thomas, its not up there with the greats as far as gameplay. I love the soundscape though.
I've only played this twice in my life, once back in 2011 and again for this review, and completely forgot about the monkey and the trap; which leads on to the end of world boss. Its easy to rush through the game making mistakes, but with such a tight time limit its essential to dash around and get completely lost. It also doesnt help that the player cant spit downwards, or at an angle to shoot creatures (like the cameleon) right at their feet.
I hunted all over for a Welcome to the Jungle.mod but no luck, so in the end I found a great piano version of the song on youtube. Its quite an old clip so hopefully the girl playing it wont mind. Not much point making a comparison zone for this as you get to see all the caveman games I'm going to cover in the intro sequence. The intro seemed to have some ghost lines on it when I watched it on my HDTV, but on the CRT I use to edit it looked fine, so no idea the issue there.
