PvP is in a horrifically bad state right now. Mirror matches are going on across almost every single data center with obvious "must pick or lose" jobs like warrior, white mage, dragoon and samurai.

It's a mess. And we need to talk.

This might ruin pvp in final fantasy 14. I’m genuinely worried about the future of pvp if something isn’t done very soon. And that isn’t clickbait, that isn’t fear and that isn’t hypebeast. I’m genuinely concerned and invested at this point.

Never in the entire history of final fantasy 14 did I ever think that I would unironically say I look forward to logging on and taking part in player versus player. But I do, the improvements to the series rewards, the addition of crystalline conflict, the complete rework of every single job’s skills all combined together to an experience that I don’t want to put down.

Yet I have been slowing down. But I know myself well enough to know that’s not from burnout. Like I still log into Overwatch my threshold of -- uh patience is very high. Because as-is whenever I pick a healer that isn’t white mage, or a tank that isn’t warrior or a DPS that isn’t dragoon or samurai I feel like I’m throwing the match and I enjoy variety a lot especially in casual rounds.

But I probably gave the problem away saying that! There is a very obvious problem with pvp that is starting to finally gain traction that honestly I realized days ago when I made my pvp tier list video.

Some jobs are overbearing to say the absolute least. So much so that yeah I stand behind the ratings I gave jobs.

White mage combined with warrior that know how to time their stuns correctly and then the white mage follows up with their polymorph is absolutely game changing.

Like why does warrior have a 15 second cooldown area of effect stun?

Why does white mage’s limit break recharge just so incredibly fast when other jobs like the bard’s recharges at what feels like the rate of molasses? And I am firmly convinced that bard is in A-tier for the record.

But white mage’s limit break does 18k damage in an AOE, that also stuns for 3 seconds, that also applies a regen to the entire party and also increases your damage by 10%. Which the damage is easily followed up on in their own kit with afflatus misery in an area of effect for a bit over 13k damage cause of that damage amplification.

So 3 second stun and an easily executed self combo for over 31k damage when hp pools of non tanks fall around 50k hp. So your team needs to make up the rest of that 20k somewhere during that stun.

Now compare white mage or warrior to gunbreaker or dancer and I don’t think anyone really is saying they are on the same playing field. Even with posts saying dancer and gunbreaker are playable, which I respectfully disagree in my own experiences in game and on paper, they are often going at it by a comparison angle to white mage or warrior or dragoon or samurai or ninja.

Now to be clear, I don’t want the jobs defining features to be simply destroyed willy nilly with no point just for the sake of balance and let’s homogenize all of their features for the sake of complete true balance.

But one thing that I think pvp needs is like any other pvp game, consistent balance patches coming out at a solid rate. Because as-is whenever I pick a healer that isn’t white mage, or a tank that isn’t warrior or a DPS that isn’t dragoon or samurai I feel like I’m throwing the match.

I actually see reapers so rarely and when I do often find myself tanking them-- I had to actually look up online that yeah they have an area of effect crowd control apparently.

But I wouldn’t know that because in comparison to the white mage warrior crowd control that I see so often the reaper is just laughable.

And that doesn’t make me feel good to say because I want to play things like specifically reaper for instance more. Which is rough because even in my casual matches I queue into it’s like a roll of the dice on team comp and I can almost always guess which team will win.
