Samurai Deeper Kyo [PS1] - play as Tokugawa Ieyasu
This is a demonstration of Tokugawa Ieyasu in the PS1 version of Samurai Deeper Kyo. Read on below for more information...
Tokugawa is a sub-boss in the game, and he is an unlockable playable character. However he cannot be used in Story mode.
For this video I have made a demonstration of his moves and a match against an opponent.
===== About Tokugawa Ieyasu =====
He's one of those 'ultra-cool-and-not-too-old-period-martial-arts-master' designs... it's clear that from looking at his mannerisms and fighting style that he is very highly skilled in martial arts. He has his arms folded virtually all of the time, stands completely still and has the 'blowing wind/breeze clothes'. That should tell you what sort of a design he is.
All of his basic moves are fast kicks, and his jumps are teleport-jumps which feel slightly weird. Special moves include a fireball and a sword strike. He has fairly good range considering he uses kicks, and can combo very well.
===== About SDK =====
Samurai Deeper Kyo is a very stylish game indeed... the artwork, sprites, animation and voice-acting are top-notch, and would definitely not look out of place when placed alongside some of Capcom's and SNK's past 2D fighters.
The game has quite an in-depth story mode for each of the regular characters, they uniquely interact with each other with dialogue from the voice acting. Additionally, this interaction is also used for the before and after matches in the other modes.
The gameplay is solid, with good hit-detection and hit-pause. You will not find any quarter-circle or dragon punch motions in this game though.
The music is also very well composed, and is fitting of the period the game is set in.
This game is of course, based on the Japanese manga/anime series of the same name. The characters seem to be represented excellently in the game through the in-fight sprites, artwork, and voice acting.
A high quality game that is very rounded off and complete.
