This is an unused alternative character screen.

As you can see in the video, the graphics of it is very messed up, probably because the graphics allocation has been removed or the addresses to it has been moved. However, it seems to work/operate as intended though, but still "incorrect" in some ways. Here is the information:

---- The character select seems to be split into two parts, left side for Player 1 and right side for Player 2.

---- It may have been designed to be used for some kind of tournament/league arcade cabinet link-up mode.

---- To select a character in a group, you need a credit for each character.

---- It is 2-player versus only.

---- It does not allow mirror matches.

---- The character's portraits in this screen look very different to their normal portraits.

---- Jacky doesn't seem to have a portrait in this screen.

---- The character select time you get is short. However, each time you use a credit to select another character, the time resets.

---- The Unused characters 1, 2, and 3 actually has portraits in this beta screen unlike the normal select screen.

---- When you choose to select another character, sometimes the graphics seem to mess up more, making it even worse.

It is sometimes amazing on what can be found in the data of video games. So more than 2 decades later (at this time of writing), we get to see some new stuff in Virtua Fighter 1.
