SAMURAI SHODOWN ⚔️ Arcade vs Genesis
When Samurai Shodown became SNK's big fighter hit in the early '90s, every console back then had to have a port of that awesome 2D weapon-based brawler. Thanks to SNK's second-party developer, Takara, they nailed it, making multiple ports for various consoles. The Sega Genesis version was the first game Takara tackled, and let me tell you, it turned out pretty darn awesome.
Sure, it's not arcade-perfect, but it's a close shave. The only hiccup is the zoomed-in view, making it a tad hard to catch all the action in the background of each stage. It's missing some intricate details too. Not a deal-breaker though, because, aside from that, all the character sprites look much larger and in full form, unlike the Super NES version. However, due to the big sprites and zoomed-in camera, the colossal character Earthquake can't join the SS party in this version. But hey, if you're not heartbroken about missing out on that hefty dude, it's no biggie.
What's cool about the visuals in this game is that all the blood and violence from the arcade are present during gameplay. That's a big win for any SS fan. Sure, there are a few visual losses from the arcade, like the intro and all the character's winning art, along with some win poses. But considering this game already looks fantastic on the Sega Genesis, missing a few minor things is no sweat, especially when you realize it's rocking on a 16-Bit machine, which is like ten times less fancy than an arcade machine.
