Save Anywhere and Skip Yakra in Chrono Trigger - A Wild Glitch Appears! #shorts
In Chrono Trigger for the SNES, there's a way to trick the game into allowing you to save anywhere.
In this example, the first step I execute is to open the Menu (X button by default) just as I'm about to transition into another room through a doorway. In other words, right as I'm walking through a doorway, I hit X to open the menu. Also in this example, I am using the area just before the room with the Yakra boss fight.
When you walk into a doorway and open the menu at the same time, the game will delay your party's transition into the next room for as long as the menu is active. However, you can cancel the menu and immediately open it back up again, and the game will still remain in this "delayed transition" state. So if you were to close the menu WITHOUT opening it back up again at any point during this "delayed transition" state, the game will move your characters into the next room (as though you've just walked through a doorway).
What's nice about this is that every time you close your menu and re-open it, you can control your characters for just a few frames. So the next step is to inch your characters over to the Save Point while repeatedly opening and closing your menu. Once you've inched all the way on top of the Save Point, close your menu one last time, and the game will place you in the room beyond the door. Now, the game thinks you're still on a Save Point when you are definitely not, so you can save the game almost anywhere you want.
This trick can then be abused to skip the Yakra boss fight. Run up to the edge of the carpet just before you lose control of your characters and you're locked into the boss fight. Then open up your menu, save your game, and reset.
Now, when you load up your save file, you should have complete control of your characters during the dialogue, which is normally impossible. Next you can open the treasure chest on the left to release the real Chancellor, and after mashing through some text, you can skip the Yakra boss battle.
Kind of complicated, and I feel like maybe I crammed too much into a one-minute short video, but I hope it's not too hard to follow. Also I said "now" like 100 times.
