Secret of Evermore - Self-Imposed Challenge Run Part 13: Nightmare in the new world
Rules so far:
-No switching to the Dog in an active combat area unless absolutely necessary
-Dog must not be dropped to 0 HPs
-Pixie Dust, Wings, and Call Beads are not allowed
-Alchemy restrictions to be determined
-Bone Crusher banned after Thraxx
-All Sword and Spear weapon restrictions to be determined
-Most rules disabled for convenience in non-threatening areas
In this new region, Antiqua, there's some clear new dangers. They seem to indicate that the planet the game's general world takes place on rotates anti-clockwise as opposed to the clockwise for our own planet--not that I'm making excuses for California, mind you, no way would I want to do that with all the idiocy it involves.
Regardless, the enemies have more dangerous stats than the Vipers, but aren't quite as sophisticated in their behavior. The Mad Monk is the only enemy of note so far with strategy and tactics, and that's purely by being able to inflict Confound if they catch you with their staff spinning attack. Rogues are basically warrior-types who make up for mediocre Physical DEF with high HP and ATK. Really, if you mess around with Rogues, you may find yourself with their heavy mini-anchors meeting your skull. It's also worth mentioning that Rogues have a quirk where their vertical movement is much slower than their horizontal movement, for the good that does you in their introduction if you go east first, when you need to go east anyway. Yeah, oops, game, try introducing these enemies in a less threatening manner.
Oh, and Sand Spiders? They're basically palette swaps of Widowmakers with an actual Evade stat going on. And yes, they're still capable of inflicting Poison once they get past their underwhelming Hit value.
Really, this brings up that this general section of the game is intent on making you miss the Dog, involving enemies that you could welcome AI-controlled brute force against. The next area, which will be in the next part, will have it happen as well, despite it having its own presence of Sand Spiders. The bright spot is that at least Blimp is around to provide a familiar face who is willing to sell ingredients and teach Crush. ....actually, for the intents of this challenge, Crush gets banned for being ridiculously powerful. In fact, most spells in Antiqua are getting the banhammer for that general reason too.
Also, there's a short story sequence where the player is in control of a greyhound. We'll find out next part what that's about...in case we can't already guess. And oh boy, next part is a DOOZY.
