I gotta say, this was entertaining.

Version 14.0 had the Spactory's B2 upgrade toned up to have the additional effect where the Spactory has 4x attack rate during the first 2 1/2 seconds of a Round. I still think this doesn't make Spactory any sign of incredible, because the DPS is STILL abysmal and Smart Spikes as the upgrade is now called does NOTHING to fix it, providing only burst damage, but it plays to Spactory's strengths and, by doing so, provides a sense of creativity and methodical offense, exactly what I'm wanting to see from Spactory.

I complained about how a forward Spactory can end up doing things like regen farming. B2 Spactory no longer has this concern, because the initial burst of attack speed will ensure that more of the regens get hit before they can multiply, and then once the boost is over, the low number of piles coming out means that fewer Regens will get to multiply. The T3/B2 Spactory also gets the bonus of not killing a MOAB layer too early. The end result of these two factors is that there is NO risk to having a T3/B2 Spactory out in front. And yes, that's right: a T3 Spactory gets to see some freaking use, simply via reduced difficulty with burst damage.

Of course, I don't know why a M3+ Spactory would want the Smart Spikes upgrade. M3's MOAB bonus damage has the problem that you don't want to pop MOAB layers too early lest you find yourself ill-prepared for the faster children, and if you point to DDTs being fast themselves, M3+/B2 Spactory unfortunately is unable to do anything to Leads, and that includes DDTs. And when the biggest lead a M3/B2 Spactory would manage over a T1/M3 Spactory is 125 damage, WITH the MOAB bonus damage, it far from justifies the lack of access to Lead damage ability. As for M4+? Yeah, with law of diminishing getting involved from the Spike Storm special ability, which already benefits from the Top path upgrades, forget about that.

Also, further practice with the B2 upgrade indicates that it's pretty bad on higher difficulties thanks to burnout. Considering how Spactory is expensive for the early game, that makes the upgrade's ability to be usable even more questionable.


I will at least say, though, that the buff is a step in the right direction and has the benefit of supporting utility, but the execution is still wanting.
