Rules so far:
-No switching to the Dog in an active combat area unless absolutely necessary
-Dog must not be dropped to 0 HPs
-Pixie Dust, Wings, and Call Beads are not allowed
-Alchemy restrictions to be determined
-Bone Crusher banned after Thraxx
-All Sword and Spear weapon restrictions to be determined
-Most rules disabled for convenience in non-threatening areas

So finally going into the Volcano Catacombs, this covers the first half of it, where the only enemies around are Vipers. This does at least work for story when this area that involves Convection Schmonvection for the heroes is their home base, and it's not like the Vipers are rejects at all, since they have the strongest all-around stats of the mooks so far, AND they know how to fight, demanding attack leading. The good news is that the Vipers have the lowest Recharge rates in the game, making it easier to charge up attacks when they take their time with the attack cooldown.

Ultimately, the Volcano Catacombs brings up for me what I can call the Sliding Scale of Creativity VS Structure, because we can't exactly expect Carniflowers to last 2 seconds in the heat, so that does at least make sense even if the gameplay becomes more YMMV. Of course, the ingredient finds do get silly when there's some Water for the Levitate formula, which does need to be used, and ESPECIALLY Roots. Freaking tree roots in a volcano, and right by the lava at that. Wouldn't they catch fire? It's not like healing spells are even absolutely necessary, so gameplay doesn't work as a justification there either. I'm left wondering what the developer behind the sniff location provisions was thinking, most likely some overly cautious mentality that the guy who did the YKTTW entry for Savvy Guy Energetic Girl would think is needlessly paranoid about the player's competence if the Water likely for Levitate is any indication.

Oh yeah, and the Viper Commander, now demoted to respawning mini-boss, coughs up a Mud Pepper each time he's killed. Also, there's a hidden guy with the Speed formula. As a word of warning, if you miss this guy before beating the boss, you will lose this opportunity for good.
