Rules so far:
-No switching to the Dog in an active combat area unless absolutely necessary
-Dog must not be dropped to 0 HPs
-Pixie Dust, Wings, and Call Beads are not allowed
-Alchemy restrictions to be determined
-Bone Crusher banned after Thraxx
-All Sword and Spear weapon restrictions to be determined

So far, I'm allowing alchemy usage for swatting Mosquitos, mostly to avoid being full on ingredients when handling searches. This part is filler anyway, just a transition from Blimp's Hut in the swamp to the Inn at the Volcano Path. So I can focus on talking about the L3 Axe attack.

To summarize, the L3 Axe attack has the Boy have the axe twirl around him, anticlockwise unless he's facing left in which case it will be clockwise. There is very clear windup, but as shown with Salabog, it makes up for it with an invincibility duration. This is still an unimpressive attack that convinces me that the developers didn't playtest the balance, but I can at least see it having use in smashing a cluster of enemies.

There is a technical aspect that allows for more versatility when having an Axe at L3: when you run with L3 chargeup, your chargeup is reduced but only to a given amount of L2 chargeup, and you will still gain chargeup, though while you maintain the run, it will be slower. This allows for a lengthened amount of running, though I think the running ends when wanting to turn significantly. The real usefulness of this, though, is to get rid of overcharge and be able to use the L2 attack, which has far less windup when launched and then still has that double strike with higher reach. This is useful for the Axes, but I doubt it is much for the Swords or the Spears, so I guarantee it's lost in the midst of player behavior.

The next part will show the good gameplay I've been foreshadowing.
