Seijin Plays FFT 1.3034 Easytype, Part 23 : Gate of Lionel Castle (Take 1)
First of all, I gotta explain something here. When I was recording this video, my computer froze during the recording. Therefore, the video isn't complete. I was winning the battle, but I didn't want to upload an incomplete video anyway without showing the ending. So instead, I ended up keeping this video, but resetting and restarting the battle to make a new recording. I thought the original attempt (this one) was interesting enough to show anyway. So in short, I kept this video to upload anyway, and will follow with the actual winning battle as my next video.
Now that I got that out of the way, I'll go into more details about the battle itself. The knights from vanilla were replaced by geomancers. Gafgarion has Teleport, so you can't just have Ramza leave the castle while Gafgarion does nothing because he cannot reach. However, Gafgarion is pretty much always locked on Ramza.
This was my very first attempt at this battle, and my setup with Ramza really shows just that. Initially, I planned to just have Ramza open the gate, with him using the geomancy abilities to stop Gafgarion (as he's vulnerable to a few negative effects) and gang up on him. But it's rather busy on the other side of the gate, so this is too complicated. I ended up having Ramza join up the battle by using Elemental on the enemies on the other side of the gate instead. In my second attempt (the next video), I fixed Ramza's setup to be more useful.
This battle can be pretty complicated if the geomancers land status effects on your characters. Magic Defend Up reduces damage from Elemental, and also helps against the summoner's summons, of course, making it a good support ability in this battle. Coupled with Auto Potion, this can make your characters rather safe, as long as no status effect triggers. If your level is low enough (like mine), Elemental is not nearly as dangerous as it can be if you are more levelled.
My computer froze at exactly 19:53. It unfroze roughly three to four minutes later. I cut those few minutes at the end of the video, which was just the game going on with nothing happening. But in short, I was pretty much winning when it happened.
