Seijin Plays Super Mario RPG Armageddon Part 9 : Forest Maze
4Intro : Super Mario RPG Armageddon is a fanmade hack of Super Mario RPG, by Dark Kefka. Its goal is to make the game more challenging and giving even veterans of the game a run for their money. Not only do monsters get a stat overhaul, but they also get completely new attacks. Additionally, there are countless several difference here and there. Weaponry, magic, items... everything has changed.
In this video, I explore the entirety of the Forest Maze. I go out of my way to fight a random battle or two, but I generally try to avoid them. I also obtain all the invisible chests... or at least, I believe I got them all.
In the original game, one of the invisible chests contained absolutely nothing. In the hack, it contains a Heavy Shell, a very good upgrade to Mario's previous weapon, with an innate "Defense Up" effect. It also reduces speed by 20 (which affects turn order). You can kind of notice that I did not know that at first, wondering just what I got (I checked my item inventory before the equipment inventory).
In the maze part of the dungeon, I followed the instructions from the Rose Town NPC : "left, left, straight, right". It leads to a room with five chests with some stuff in them. If I'm not mistaken, the contents of the chests depends on whether you helped the NPC or not (as you can get to that secret area without helping the NPC). I might be mistaken, but I know I've seen different items in the chests before and I'm pretty sure the contents are based on Mario's actions in Rose Town.
After that, it's boss battle time. Bowyer isn't very hard if you have Able Juices and/or Trueform Pins. Since this was my first time fighting Bowyer in the patch, I didn't know what to expect, so I didn't equip those Trueform Pins. Obviously, I would do it on a second attempt, had I lost on the first attempt. Anyway, Able Juices heal negative status effects as well as restore 100 HP. Great items to have for this battle. There is no doubt that Bowyer would be far harder if you had no way to prevent or cure the statuses that he can inflict.
Other than Bowyer having a few different attacks, the gimmick of this battle (locking up the X, Y or A button) remains the same. In this hack, Geno is a glass cannon. This will remain apparent as the game progresses.
