Shaka iNkosi Yamakhosi - A Review of a Shaka Zulu Animation
A review of the South African animated short film, Shaka - iNkosi Yamakhosi by Manzini Zungu and Nick Cloete.
This Shaka Zulu themed film follows the story of a meek young boy, Manzini (voiced by Themba Ntuli), who is attacked by three bullies on his way home from school in an incident that almost costs him his life. Manzini confesses to his Gogo (grandmother) his desire to quit school. In response, she tells him the coming of age story Shaka Zulu the great warrior and king of the Zulu people of South Africa, to inspire her grandson through the strength of his lineage. Actor Mondli Makhoba voices Shaka, Ayanda Borotho is Queen Nandi, and Dawn Thandeka King is Mkabayi. Veteran entertainer Lillian Dube takes on the role of Gogo MaLamula Zulu.
African cartoons are a rarity so I think it's important to promote African animated films to help propagate more African inspired animations.
I hope you enjoy the cartoon Shaka - iNkosi Yamakhosi which is available now on Netflix.
There's a reason why the Zulu warrior is so iconic in African history and that's thanks to the efforts of the legendary ruler Shaka Zulu who turned the Zulu kingdom into an empire.
