– VIDEO INTRODUCTION –
This playthrough shows:
• a no-death run of the first loop;
• every hidden bonus character.
After the Bonus Stage, the game loops back. There is no formal ending to the game.
These are the criteria for the appearance of the three hidden bonus characters – Zeppelin, Satellite and Ghost Ship:
• Zeppelin – destroy the battleship just before it leaves the screen – [as seen at 00:59, for example];
• Satellite – shoot down two heavy bombers in a row – [at 02:47];
• Ghost Ship – sink the carrier just as it enters at night – [at 04:08].
The timestamps for each stage can be found at the bottom of the video description box.
– GAME OVERVIEW –
Sky Destroyer for the Famicom is a pseudo-3D rail shooter. The game was ported by Home Data (now Magical Company) and published by Taito (now a company within the Square Enix Group). It was released in Japan on November 14, 1985.
• Sky Destroyer began as a coin-operated video game for the Japanese arcade (AC) market. Developed and published by Taito, it was first commercially distributed in May 1985.
• In Sky Destroyer, the player controls a Japanese World War II monoplane, the Mitsubishi A6M "Zero".
◦ Fighter planes are the usual enemies, and occasionally a bomber will come along, where each of its four engines must be shot.
◦ A battleship or submarine may try to shoot the Zero down with anti-aircraft fire. Sometimes aircraft carriers appear on the distant horizon, which can be sunk with torpedoes.
◦ At the end of a scene, the player is confronted with a naval fortress on an island.
• Similar to Sega's more popular After Burner (アフターバーナー) (1987), Sky Destroyer's third-person perspective keeps the camera directly behind the plane.
