Previously, Davilas did the Daedric quest "Waking Nightmare" based in Dawnstar and acquired the Skull of Corruption, a staff whose power increases with dreams absorbed from the sleeping. Now, he will do another Daedric quest for a client in Dawnstar.

Davilas currently has the objective "Visit the museum in Dawnstar". This was started when the courier delivered the Museum Pamphlet after Davilas had reached Level 20.

After resuming, Davilas meets Silus Vesuius at the entrance to the Silus's House. This starts the quest "Pieces of the Past".

Entering Silus's house concludes "Visit the museum in Dawnstar". After examining Mythic Dawn's artifacts, Davilas talks to Silus. When Davilas asks about the job, Silus assigns him to retrieve the three fragments of Mehrunes' Razor: the hilt, the blade shards, and the pommel.

The pommel is in the possession of Drascua at Dead Crone Rock southwest of Markarth. To get there, Davilas fast-travels to Dushnikh Yal, an Orc encampment southeast of Markarth. From Dushnikh Yal, he heads west. Along the way, he finds a cave, Purewater Run.

West of the bridge, Davilas enters Hag Rock Redoubt. Look out for Forsworn, including a powerful Forsworn Briarheart.

At the top of Hag Rock Redoubt, Davilas finds the entrance to a tower, Dead Crone Rock. Proceeding through this tower, he finds more Forsworn waiting.

Out the top exit, Davilas finds the boss, a Hagraven named Drascua. Look out for the Soul Gem traps in front of her altar. Upon the altar, Davilas finds Stone of Barenziah #12. Drascua carries the Pommel Stone of Mehrunes' Razor.

There is also a Word Wall. Davilas learns "Run", the second word of the shout "Dismay".

Then, the blade shards are being held by Ghunzul at Cracked Tusk Keep, a bandit lair just west of Falkreath. So, to get there, Davilas fast-travels to Falkreath.

Riding west, Davilas soon finds Cracked Tusk Keep, where Orc bandits are stationed outside. The interior of Cracked Tusk Keep is home to a small contingent of Orc bandits. The boss, Ghunzul, is located upstairs in the southeast part of the building. The Cracked Tusk Vault Key can be looted from him. There is also a key on a table in his room.

Downstairs in the building, Davilas must use the key to unlock a small cage and then press a button to unbar the way to the Cracked Tusk Vaults. The vaults do not seem to hold enemies, but there are plenty of treasures and traps. In the room on the left, there is a copy of "Rislav the Righteous", which increases Light Armor when read.

In the treasure room, look out for a few trip wires. The Shards of Mehrunes' Razor are located on a pressure plate that triggers darts when the weight is removed.

Davilas backtracks out to the Cracked Tusk Vaults and then exits the building.

Finally, the hilt of Mehrunes' Razor is with Jorgen in Morthal. So, Davilas fast-travels to Morthal. He finds Jorgen at the lumber mill in the northeast of town. Davilas can bribe Jorgen to give him the razor's hilt, or he can attempt to persuade or intimidate him. Davilas settles on bribery. Jorgen gives him the Key to Jorgen and Lami's House and the Key to Jorgen's Chest.

Davilas enters Jorgen and Lami's House. In Jorgen's Chest, he finds the Hilt of Mehrunes' Razor, among other goodies.

Davilas heads home to Whiterun for some inventory management. Then, he fast-travels to Dawnstar.

He visits Silus at Silus's house and hands over the pieces of Mehrunes' Razor. Davilas earns a premium for turning over all three pieces at once. Next, Davilas must meet Silus at the Shrine of Mehrunes Dagon, where Silus will entreat Mehrunes to repair the razor. This is such a terrible idea.

The Shrine of Mehrunes Dagon is in the mountains southwest of Dawnstar. Davilas fast-travels to one of the closest locations, the Great Lift at Mzinchaleft. From there, he makes his way up the mountains to the south. Along the way, he discovers Dimhollow Crypt.

Eventually, Davilas reaches the Shrine of Mehrunes Dagon, where he finds Silus waiting. After Silus tries to speak to Mehrunes, Davilas must try. Mehrunes instructs Davilas to kill Silus. In order to get Mehrunes' Razor, Davilas must kill Silus. So, this is what he does.
