Previously, Davilas did the last primary quest for the Companions, "Glory of the Dead", and cured Kodlak's spirit of Hircine's curse of lycanthropy. He is now the Harbinger of the Companions. Now, Davilas will wrap up something at Ysgramor's Tomb and then start on the Dark Brotherhood quest line.

After resuming, Davilas fast-travels to Ysgramor's Tomb. At the statue of Ysgramor at the entrance, he takes back Wuuthrad. Davilas chats with Vilkas and Aela.

Out the door to the west of the statue of Ysgramor, Davilas finds a Word Wall outside. There, he learns "Allegiance", the second word of "Animal Allegiance".

Now, Davilas will start the Dark Brotherhood quest line with an optional quest. He fast-travels to Battle-Born Farm east of Whiterun. From there, he travels north along the road.

Along the way, he discovers Whitewatch Tower.

On the road near Loreius Farm, Davilas finds a broken-down horse and cart. Behind the cart, he finds a jester named Kefka ... I mean, Dhoulmagus ... oh, I'm sorry, Cicero. That's right, Cicero. I like this character. He's absolutely insane.

Cicero issues the quest "Delayed Burial". He asks Davilas to convince Loreius, the owner of the nearby farm, to fix his wagon wheel.

Up at Loreius Farm, Davilas talks to Vantus Loreius, the farm owner. Davilas does have the option to agree with Loreius and report Cicero to a nearby guard. However, this option will have unpleasant consequences for the inhabitants of Loreius Farm.

Instead, Davilas persuades Vantus to assist Cicero. Afterwards, he reports to Cicero. Cicero rewards him with shiny, clinky gold. "Delayed Burial" complete!

To officially begin the Dark Brotherhood quest line, Davilas must follow the objective "Talk to Aventus Aretino", which was started by a rumor in Riverwood near the very start of the game. Davilas fast-travels to Windhelm.

Aventus Aretino has locked himself into the Aretino Residence east of Candlehearth Hall. It is pretty easy to break in. Upstairs, Davilas finds Aventus, a boy in the middle of a disturbing ritual. Mistaking Davilas for a Dark Brotherhood assassin, Aventus assigns him the quest "Innocence Lost". The objective is to assassinate Grelod the Kind, the sadistic headmistress at Honorhall Orphanage in Riften.

Davilas fast-travels to Mistveil Keep in Riften. Near the keep, he finds Honorhall Orphanage. He leaves Lydia outside to avoid collateral damage.

Within the orphanage, he finds the caustic Grelod the Kind. She is so terrible that she won't even allow her wards to be adopted. I swear, she's even worse than Ms. Hannigan from "Annie". Davilas kills Grelod, and only Grelod. Killing Constance Michel, her employee, would be bad.

Afterwards, Davilas picks up Lydia and fast-travels back to Windhelm. He reports to Aventus at the Aretino Residence. "Innocence Lost" complete! Aventus rewards Davilas with the Aretino Family Heirloom, a plate worth 100 gold. Poor Aventus's priorities are a bit messed up now.

Then, Davilas heads home to Lakeview Manor to get some rest. However, when he wakes up, he finds himself in a remote shack. Astrid, the leader of the Dark Brotherhood, talks to him. She issues the quest "With Friens Like These...". By killing Grelod, Davilas has robbed the Dark Brotherhood of a contract, and he must repay the debt by killing one of the three other captives she has brought to the shack.

There are three captives: Fultheim the Fearless, Alea Quintus, and Vasha. The player earns the trophy "Snake Tongue" for successfully persuading, bribing, and intimidating individuals.

In interviewing the captives, Davilas reaches Level 48 and increases his Health.

Davilas can kill any or all of them. However, there is an alternate option: to kill Astrid. She will actually put up a decent fight. Killing her will cause you to fail "With Friends Like These..." and start the quest "Destroy the Dark Brotherhood!"

Davilas properly continues the quest by killing the captives. Afterwards, he reports to Astrid. She gives him the Abandoned Shack Key. She also invites him to meet her at the Dark Brotherhood Sanctuary west of Falkreath. She gives him the password to the door: "Silence, my brother."

Davilas exits the Abandoned Shack, which is in the marsh north of Morthal. Then, to get to the Dark Brotherhood Sanctuary, he fast-travels to Falkreath.

The description is continued in the comments.
