Ow, I felt the edge and I think I probably meme'd a bit too hard there. Sure, the golden era of FPS games may be over but I still like to think that there's a art and a direction to make retro style FPS games to bring me back to that nostalgia. This curious FPS game, developed by Big Z Studio and published by No More Robots goes back to June 2023 on PC and Xbox with PS4/PS5/Switch getting a port on May 15th 2024.

Slayers X Terminal Aftermath: Vengeance Of The Slayer or simply, Slayers X is a FPS game that is a follow-up to the 2019 simulator game Hypnospace Outlaw, Its story follows a character that exists in the universe of Hypnospace Outlaw named Zane Lofton who is the author in universe of the game Slayers X, and during training at the X Slayers Dojo, the Psyko syndicate attacks and when our mentor Mikey dies, the plot will be pushing us into a crazy story that only this game could make up.

We begin with dual pistols which hold 14 rounds, and we'll get the S Blade from Mikey which is the melee weapon, which when powered up beyond 95 hackblood (Essentially armor), we can use a powerful shockwave to deal extra damage. Other weapons include our shotgun (The Glass Blasta) which uses broken glass sharts, a missile launcher, among other weapons. Shooting itself reminds me of the Build engine games like Duke 3D, while Zane has a lot of colorful and quite hysterical one liners.

Don't think that Slayers X is a cheap and poor knock-off of a FPS game nor a quick cash in of the Retro FPS movement, Its the real deal: The controls are so solid and remind me of Wolf 3D's stopping on a dime, the levels are large and open world like allowing you more then one way to approach enemies, enemy a.i. is better then you'd expect. Music? Def feels like the rock/metal of the 1990s and its pure adrenaline. Slayers X's platinum will be a bit hard to get but this, is a solid FPS game for all gamers.
