Rebellion against the system doesn't always work out. As I look back to the PlayStation 2 days, it was a time when I can remember that Sony had a DVD Player in the system and that is brought legendary games such as GTA San Andreas to the world, it also had a fair amount of FPS games and of them, one stands out with it having a sequel and 2 games on the PS3, The series known, as Red Faction. (Sadly, PS4/PS3 port did not get multiplayer option that the original game had)

Red Faction was originally a 2001 release on the PC and PS2, N-Gage in 2003 and mobile port in 2005 with the PS2 release getting a PS4/PS3 port on November 29th 2016. The story of Red Faction takes place in 2075: On the planet of Mars, The Ultor Corp has conscripted people to work in the mines as Earth's resources are running out but soon a plague breaks out and after one too many tales of abuse, the rebellion has begun, with our character being a miner named Parker.

First thing to note is this game is from 2001 and I'm playing on a PS5, The controls are.. well, not like I remember as looking up and down is reversed like flight simulator mode so that was often was causing me issues, We start un-armed and get shock batons as the melee weapon, the pistol has a option for a silent attack though it lowers damage and various other weapons are employed as we progress through the game. Red Faction also has a system just like the PS2 port of Half-Life where you die, its game over, though here dying forces you to restart the whole game which was infuriating to say the least.

A big thing is that Red Faction runs on what was brand new at the time engine named "Geo-Mod" or Geometry Modification which allows you to use explosives to blast the enviroment apart and open doors if you don't have a key, while it may not seem like much, this was a revolutionary thing on the PS2 and was a attempt, from my knowledge, to be a like a "Halo Killer" back in 2001. The game has not aged well per controls, agonizing enemy A.I. and that damn restart option when you die but its fascinating to see what once was, 23 years ago.
